Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my order taking so long?

We sincerely apologise for delays and understand that you want to be shooting as soon as possible. We don’t stock any prebuilt products; in other words, your item doesn’t exist until you place an order.

All our products are made by hand and with limited staff, sometimes it gets difficult to build product to a high standard we desire in short amount of time. We don’t want to sent you a product which we wouldn’t be happy to use ourself. Sometimes this means taking a bit longer to make sure that everything is of the standard that we expect.

If you require Motion Six lenses for a production, we recommend placing orders at least 60 days before the actual shoot just to be on the safe side.

The flares in your videos are quite strong, is there a way to make them more subtle?

How fast can a car go? Depends on the driver.

Our videos are designed to demonstrate what the activated “Look/Flare” of the lens will be. Our videos are not designed to be SUBTLE or ARTISTIC. Most of the time, the flares in our videos are activated by pointing to a bright source or using a small mirror to bounce more light from the FLOW hood.

Generally speaking, the coatings on Cinema lenses are quite difficult to fully activate on oval apertures due to the restricted light transmission, with the THIN aperture being the most flare resistant of all.

Variable apertures lenses are more prone to flares, but are easier to control with aperture settings.

What happened to Cinema 37?

The base lens we use for our Cinema 37 is extremely rare to get hold of and currently we cannot attain sufficient quantities to be able to offer Cinema 37.

We are however currently working to bring Cinema 37 back but we cannot specify a time frame.

How long will my order take to complete?

We generally aim to complete orders within a week. However due to the manual nature of our production process orders can take upto two weeks and on rare occasions longer if we have a high volume orders to fill.

We understand that you want to be using your lens as soon as possible, however if we rush your order then chances of defects are higher. We want you to have the best quality product we can produce!

All your products are out of stock, when will you have them in stock?

Unfortunately, our products do sell out quickly. Other times we have to manually close orders due to the fact that there are too many order to fulfil and not enough technicians to complete them.

We will be introducing a back-order system to order lenses when they are out of stock. However in the meantime, we advise that you check back at a later time.

Where can I find demo photos and video of your lenses?

Demo photos and videos are all on our website.

Visit the photo gallery and video gallery section from the main menu on our site.

What's the difference between optical coating and the AFF?

The optical coatings are the flares that cover a majority of the image when expose to extreme light conditions.

The AFF is a glass filament we place inside the lens. This filament can be coated with any colour and creates the anamorphic streak flares that are present in real anamorphic glass.

What's the difference between real anamorphic lenses and Cinema lenses?

The only difference is the aspect ratio stretch. Cinema lenses do not stretch the image.

Cinema lenses can create some serious anamorphic flares that not even any anamorphic lenses can create.

Do you ship to my country?

We ship our products worldwide.

How long will shipping take?

Shipping to UK mainland will take 3 – 5 working days.

Shipping to Europe will take 3 – 7 working days.

Shipping to United States will take 7 – 14 days.

Shipping to Rest of the World can take anywhere between 7 – 30 days.

These are of course just guidelines, sometimes delays do occur. Also bear in mind that mechanical items are held longer in customs due to strict shipping regulations in some countries.

How do I track my order?

You should receive and email with your tracking number and a link to track your order. If you do not receive this email, simply contact us and we’ll provide the details.

Is there any vignetting using the Anamorphic (Oval) aperture?

Not at all.

No vignetting.

No light loss.

It works like any other lens, only better.

Can you build me a lens with...?

Chances are we can.

We’ve built lenses with custom apertures and focusing gears to fully rehoused lenses with anamorphic glass. However, additional costs may adhere depending on the type of modification.

We like to keep things straight-forward hence we don’t explicitly list our PRO services on our website.

What if I don't receive my item?

All our orders are shipped with TRACKING and INSURANCE. If your item is lost you don’t have to do anything, we’ll deal with the shipping company and send another item out to you as soon as possible.

Just let us know that you haven’t received your item and we’ll do the rest!

My order is complete but I didn't receive tracking information?

Sometimes tracking information is not available to us immediately. We have to wait for the delivery man to return with the tracking information so it can be logged into your order.

Once tracking information is available for your order, you’ll receive an email. If you do not receive an email just contact us and we’ll provide the requested details.

I need a specification that isn't listed on the website?

We can modify our products in many different ways, however to keep things simple we provide specific specification for each product so not to confuse customers.

If you’re an advanced user that needs a custom specification get in touch with us.

What if I receive a defective item?

We sincerely apologise if you have receive a defective item. Because every one of our products are handmade, mistakes can happen.

If the defect is due to a fault on our part, we’ll pay for your return postage and send another item out to you once we get the original item back.

What is the stretch on the Anamorphic aperture version of Cinema lens?

Cinema lenses with an anamorphic aperture do not squeeze or stretch the image. Cinema lenses work on the native resolution of the camera that you shoot with, i.e. if you shoot 1920×1080 then that’s the resolution your footage will be.

Could I get a free lens to write a review on my website/blog?

We do not wish to promote our lenses through any blogs or other websites.

The only promotion we seek is from artists who use our lenses as they are the testament to the quality of our products.

Why haven't I heard of Motion Six before?

We don’t explicitly market or promote any of our products on any website or blogs. This is a strict decision made by Motion Six. Even though it may seem like a bad move, we believe that our products are the marketing in itself. If our products are good enough, the right people will find us.

Is there a shipping charge?

We never charge for shipping, all our items have free shipping.

However, bear in mind that the customs office in your country may charge you a customs duty. Customs duty is not charge by Motion Six but the customs office in your country.

We always send our items as gifts so you won’t have to pay any customs duty.

Should I go with variable aperture or anamorphic aperture?

This is completely dependent on how you intend to shoot…

If you’re looking for a more cinematic feel for your photos and videos, then we would recommend going with oval aperture. However, do bear in mind that the oval aperture is fixed cannot be stepped up or down.

If you’re not too concerned about the oval bokeh and just want good looking flares, then we’d recommend the variable aperture. Flares tend to be better on the variable aperture since there it is possible to manually control exposure and how much light hits the optics.
