We get a lot of emails asking how to use Cinema 58 Flare footage pack that we offer. The flare footage were shot using our Cinema 58 lenses which our available from HERE. These packs are completely free and you can download them from our products page and under the stock footage tab.
For the sake of simplicity, we’ll be demonstrating how to use the the footage in Final Cut Pro X. However, these packs can be used in any editing and compositing program that has the blending mode feature. So let’s get started!
Download the flare footage.
Download from HERE.
Unzip the files.
Once unzipped, you will have a single video file that will contain all the flare clips.
Import video file.
Import the video file into your editing or compositing program. Browse through the video, select and cut out the flare clips that you like.
Change the blending mode to SCREEN.
In the settings windows for the flare video file, change the blending mode to SCREEN. You may also decide to grade and correct the flares at this point.
That’s It!
It’s pretty simple to use the flare overlays, though in our experience they still don’t live up to the real Cinema 58 lenses.
